Mr. Eckert serves as President and CEO for AKH Inc. With more than twenty-five years of experience in healthcare, he was proud to join AKH in 2013 and support their outstanding team. He also serves as Executive Director for CME-University in Northfield Illinois, a medical education and communications company he founded in 2007. Prior to that, Steve served as Vice President for Cardinal Health, a fortune 500 global hospital supply company. Steve started his career training healthcare professionals while with Roche Laboratories, an international pharmaceutical industry leader.
Ms. Caputo is the former Director of Continuing and Outreach Education at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where she was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Health Related Professions. In this role, she was responsible for Continuing Nursing Education, interim CME Director and Project Director for a national multi-site research study – TRIAD (Translating Research Into Action for Diabetes). Her former clinical credentials include CDE and APRN, BC-ADM. Dorothy has been involved in continuing education for over 25 years and is a Senior Consultant for ANCC Credentialing Knowledge Center.
Dr. Dziedziech-Eckert received her Doctorate in Dental Science at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1999. In 2004, Dr. Dziedziech-Eckert completed the Jersey City Medical Center General Practice Residency Program in Jersey City, NJ. After entering private practice, she served as President of the Britesmile Aesthetics clinic in Chicago, IL. from 2006-2008. Dr. Eckert believes that quality education leads to success in dentistry. She is committed to staying abreast of advances in diagnosis and treatment, as well as helping dentists to ensure that quality care is available to all patients. Dr. Dziedziech-Eckert enjoys fitness, healthy cooking, and spending time outdoors with her husband and three children.
Dr. David Kountz is responsible for academic programs at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, including continuing medical education, graduate medical education, and clinical research initiatives for the parent health system, Meridian Health. Dr. Kountz, a general internist, earned his AB at Princeton, MD at SUNY/Buffalo School of Medicine, and MBA from Georgian Court University. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he served as Chief Resident. He was a member of the faculty at Hahnemann, Temple, and Robert Wood Johnson Medical Schools with progressive responsibilities prior to joining Jersey Shore in 2007.
Dr. Kountz’s clinical and research interests include the management of hypertension and related disorders in underserved populations, as well as the role of health literacy in health outcomes. He is immediate Past-President of the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for Independent Medical Centers as well and the Board of Governors for the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Physicians. In 2002 he was elected to the Stuart D. Cook, MD Master Educator Guild of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Benjamin Soffer is a second year internal medicine resident at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. After residency he plans to enter private practice as an Internist. He studied medicine at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated from Touro College with a Bachelors in Psychology.
Benjamin is a resident member of the Meridian Health CME committee. He studied abroad for six years in Jerusalem, Israel. He likes volunteering at marathon medical tents. He enjoys running, cooking, and spending time outdoors with his wife and three children.
Ms. Clark, an award-winning medical writer and editor, is the owner of Clark Medical Writing. With more than 25 years’ experience in medical communication, she has specialized in medical writing for continuing medical education (CME) companies, trade publications, and Clinical Research Organizations. Miss Clark also has extensive experience in the development and design of publication plans, key opinion leader management, and the preparation of clinical study protocols, clinical study reports, patient informed consent forms, investigator brochures, and clinical study summary documents. She is a reviewer/abstractor for the National Guidelines Clearinghouse and the National Quality Measures Clearinghouse on behalf of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Previously, she was a Scientific Director for The Heart.org and the Editorial Director of 4 divisions at Medscape/WebMD: Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Allergy and Immunology, and Emergency Medicine. She also served as an Editorial Director of the peer review journal, MedGenMed. She was a columnist for Advance for Respiratory Care Practitioners News Magazine from 1990-2010. Miss Clark is the author of several peer reviewed articles, monographs, and books. Her text book, Asthma: a Clinicians' Guide, has been translated into several languages and is used worldwide. She is the 1996 recipient of the Bird Award given at the American Association of Respiratory Care Annual Conference for her extensive writing in Pulmonary Medicine and the 2010 D. Robert McCaffree, MD, Master FCCP Humanitarian Award given by the Chest Foundation of the American College of Chest Physicians. Her company, Clark Medical Writing, is certified by the Small Business Administrations as a Women Owned Small Business.
Ms. Makar is a nurse practitioner at Saint Peter’s University Hospital where she manages a team of nurse practitioners who work with the emergency room physicians to admit acute care patients. In addition, she manages and supervises a 12 patient observation unit.
She currently holds the position of a Clinical Adjunct Professor for Rutgers University where she monitors and evaluates preceptors along with their students in various semesters of the Adult Nurse Practitioner program.
Bernadette has been involved in continuing nursing education for 8 years as a Lead Nurse Planner, Nurse Planner, Reviewer and Pilot Tester. She is the Associate Vice President of EduPro Resources LLC.
Ms. Militello completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Ernest Mario College of Pharmacy, Rutgers University. Since then, she has been the clinical pharmacist at Jersey Shore University Medical Center focusing on medication safety, formulary management, diabetes and care of dialysis patients. She has been instrumental in developing evidence-based protocols for the optimal management of anemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with End-Stage Renal Disease. Furthermore, she participates in several teams that create and implement protocols for the treatment of patients with diabetes.
Katie is an active participant on the Meridian Health Central Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and several medication safety committees. In addition, she has been instrumental in starting the first pharmacy residency within Meridian Health. Her research, focusing on medication safety and outcomes, has been presented at several national and local pharmacy meetings.
