Understanding Joint Hypermobility

ACTIVITY OVERVIEW

This deeply insightful and immersive online course on Joint Hypermobility (JH), is presented by former dancer and authority in the field, Dr. Linda Bluestein, MD.

This course sets out to demystify the intricacies of Joint Hypermobility, differentiating it from conditions akin to it such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD). Learners will gain an understanding of the various factors that influence joint mobility, the pathophysiology of JH, and its prevalence in distinct population groups, specifically professional dancers and athletes.

Master the use of assessment tools for JH and Generalized Joint Hypermobility (GJH), such as the Beighton Score, and engage with a deep dive into various hypermobility disorders and syndromes including Ehlers–Danlos syndromes, Marfan syndrome, and Osteogenesis Imperfecta. The course will further dissect the gene mutations that precipitate these Heritable Disorders of Connective Tissue (HDCT).

Finally, a thorough examination of the clinical presentation of Symptomatic Joint Hypermobility (SJH) including musculoskeletal effects, pain types, extra musculoskeletal manifestations, and comorbidities, will provide participants with a well-rounded understanding of when further investigation is warranted.
