Dr. Barbara C. Fisher

Barbara C. Fisher, Ph.D., CBSM, DBSM, BCN, is a fully licensed psychologist/neuropsychologist, certified in behavioral sleep medicine.  She has received a diplomate and board certification in behavioral sleep medicine as well as received a board certification in neurofeedback.  She completed a sleep fellowship at the JFK Neuroscience Center in New Jersey.  Dr. Fisher is the author of many published articles as well as several books. 

Dr. Fisher speaks extensively; nationally and internationally on a variety of topics including:

Dr. Fisher is continuously involved in research projects and has authored, coauthored and published numerous research articles.  She was the co-administrator of a nationwide NIH grant study addressing PLMD and ADHD and has completed research on RLS and ADHD.  She authored a peer reviewed journal article citing the results of 20 years of ADHD neuropsychological testing and has completed advocacy training with the American Academy of Neurology resulting in a continuing outreach project for dementia patients.  Dr. Fisher is involved in ongoing research addressing traumatic brain injury, dementia and ADHD related to the benefit of neurocognitive intervention.

Trained as a neuropsychologist, Dr. Fisher has devoted much of her practice assessing and studying children as well as adults to understand how the presence of various disorders such as ADD/ADHD, brain injury and other brain challenges which affects their ability to learn and function.  Diagnosing and treating the entire age spectrum, pediatrics to the aged, has been her focus of specialization in order to understand the impact of the brain upon behavior and thinking processes.  Her practice remains on the cutting edge of assessing ADD/ADHD with neuropsychological testing and not relying upon self-report measures for diagnosis.

Dr. Fisher has developed a program for sleep onset and maintenance insomnia that the staff at United Psychological Services utilizes which is based upon principles of cognitive behavioral therapy.

Dr.  Fisher developed a school program; Fisher Academy, with the goal of encouraging learning based upon frontal lobe principles to help children diagnosed with autism and frontal lobe disorders.  She also operated a camp for several years that provided social skills and the development of “emotional intelligence” to children who struggled to connect socially in order to develop positive peer interactions.

Dr. Fisher is the Clinical Director at United Psychological Services, a Blue Cross Medical Home that fosters ongoing interaction with the medical community; pairing mental health care with physical health care in an effort to provide balanced and comprehensive treatment to patients.
