Phillip R. Langsdon, MD, is board-certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (www.abfprs.org) and has dedicated and limited his career to facial plastic surgery. In 2018-2019 he served as President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He served from 1994-2020 as Professor & Chief, Division of Facial Plastic Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center-Memphis. He currently serves as Clinical Professor.
He has multiple publications on rhinoplasty, deep plane facelift, brow elevation, and facial resurfacing. He developed techniques that enhance neck results in patients with sagging skin, sagging muscle, and short jawlines. Over the years, he has advanced the SMMS (submental muscular medialization and suspension) technique with publications in 2012, 2013, and in 2018. He continues to write about deep plane facelift procedures, facelift with the use of TXA, as well as cutaneous vascular preservation during rhytidectomy in 2025. He also written about rhinoplasty techniques designed to reduce distortions and disruptions of tip cartilage.
His practice is limited to rhinoplasty, rhytidectomy, blepharoplasty, and ancillary facial aesthetic procedures.
