Linda Martin is a Tenured Professor of Surgery at University of Virginia. She is Chief of Thoracic Surgery, co-leads Thoracic ERAS, and the Associate Program Director for the cardiothoracic residency. She has achieved 99^th percentile patient satisfaction scores for 7 consecutive years. She was awarded the Dean's Clinical Excellence Award in 2022. She has been nominated by her physician peers as a Top Doctor in Baltimore (2015), Top Doctor in Virginia (2018, 2023, 2024, 2025), and Best Practice Award in 2015 for providing excellent, timely access to high quality care. At UVA, her team has achieved 3 star STS rating for lobectomy quality multiple times, and recently for esophagectomy.

She was a co-chair of the 2024 World Lung conference, and appointment to the 10th edition staging committee for lung cancer, all with the IASLC (International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer). She is Vice-Chair for Respiratory Cancers for the Alliance (NCI cooperative group for clinical trials), and also leads the Thoracic Surgery group. She just completed a 6 year term as the STS representative to the Commission on Cancer. She is a lead investigator of multiple NCI trials, and industry sponsored lung cancer trials. She is Vice-Chair of the General Thoracic Surgical Club and will ascend as the Chair in 2026, as the 4^th Chair in the organization, and the first non-Mayo physician and first woman. She serves on several committees in the STS and AATS. She has authored over 100 journal articles.
