Sonal Tuli, MD, MEd, MBA

Dr. Tuli is a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida. She completed her residency at Indiana University and fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute before joining the faculty at the University of Florida. She served as the Residency Program Director for 10 years and was appointed Chair after a national search in 2015.
Dr. Tuli serves on the Board of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, is Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Cornea Society, and is a Trustee for the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology. She is Vice-Chair of the Practicing Ophthalmologists Curriculum Committee and was previously Chair of the AAO Online Education Committee. She has been a Board Examiner for the ABO since 2006 and currently serves as Mentor Examiner and Panel leader. At UF, she chaired the Promotion and Tenure Committee and the Compensation Committee, served as Vice-Chair of the Faculty Group Practice Executive Committee, and is a member of the Alumni Leadership Council.
Dr. Tuli speaks extensively at national and international meetings, including serving as a visiting Professor at several academic institutions. Her instruction courses at the AAO have been awarded Star Recognition every year for over a decade, ranking in the top 10% of courses at the AAO annual meeting. She has received the AAO’s Distinguished Service Award, the Secretariat Award three times, and the Senior Achievement Award. She has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Society of Teaching Scholars at the University of Florida.
