Rena Yadlapati, MD MS

Dr. Rena Yadlapati is Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and director of the Center for Esophageal Diseases & the GI motility lab, as well as program director of the advanced fellowship for esophageal disorders at UC San Diego. After completing internal medicine residency at UCLA, Dr. Yadlapati went to Northwestern University for her gastroenterology fellowship, where she also completed a T32 research fellowship in GI physiology and psychology, an advanced fellowship in esophageal disorders, and obtained a Master of Science in health services and outcomes research.
Dr. Yadlapati specializes in esophageal conditions including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), esophageal motility disorders, eosinophilic esophagitis, and Barrett's esophagus. Dr. Yadlapati has expertise in interpreting esophageal manometry, reflux monitoring and functional lumen imaging probe. Dr. Yadlapati’s NIH supported research program focuses on personalized care approaches for GERD and extra esophageal reflux. Dr. Yadlapati has authored over 200 publications, including as lead author of the Chicago Classification v4.0, San Diego Consensus for LPR, and as co-author of guidelines for achalasia, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus and physiologic testing. Dr. Yadlapati is an Associate Editor of Clinical Gastroenterology & Hepatology and has served on the board of directors for the American College of Gastroenterology Institute and the American Foregut Society.
