Management of Common Infections

This activity incorporates the CDC’s Core Elements of Antibiotic Stewardship for Nursing Homes and Infection Prevention guidelines.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for an audience of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, and physician associates.

Learning Objectives

 

  • Demonstrate practical steps that can be taken for prevention and early recognition of the common infections in the PALTC facilities and review treatment updates for pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, UTI, and CDI. 
  • Describe and discuss various clinical presentations and diagnostic challenges of pneumonia, urinary tract infections(UTI), skin and soft tissue infections, and Clostridium Dificile Infection (CDI) in Post-Acute Long-term care (PALTC) setting. 
  • Identify gaps in infection prevention best practices during transitions of care. 
  • Develop interventions to optimize antibiotic use upon admission from acute care facilities.
