Jonathan Bernstein, Professor of Medicine
Jonathan Bernstein is Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
He received his MD from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (1981-1985), completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital (1985–1988) and Allergy/Clinical Immunology training at Northwestern University (1988–1990).
He is past President of the AAAAI 2022-2023, past Chair of the AAAAI Foundation 2024-2026 and current President of Interasma. He is also a member of the AAAAI/ACAAI Joint Task Force that generates evidence-based guidelines for the Allergy specialty and a member of the World Allergy Organization board of directors GINA advocacy council, HAEA organization medical advisory board and WE CU patient advocacy organization.
He is director or co-director for several centers of excellence at the University of Cincinnati including the WAO center of excellence, the American Initiative for Mast Cell Diseases (AIM), Urticaria, Angioedema, Atopic Dermatitis and Anaphylaxis Centers of Excellence and Reference.
As a DIA certified clinical trial investigator, he has conducted numerous multicenter and physician initiated clinical therapeutic trials for a spectrum of clinical conditions.
He was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Asthma from 2009-2022 and is currently on the editorial board for the Journal of Allergy Clinical Immunology, Journal of Allergy In Practice, Annals of Allergy Asthma and Immunology and Allergy Proceedings.
He is author of 569 scientific articles and 5 textbooks related to asthma, rhinitis and immunodeficiency.
Dr Bernstein is the recipient of many awards including the Distinguished Clinician Award from the AAAAI and World Allergy Organization (2019). He has been voted “Best Doctor” in Cincinnati from 1999 to 2026 by Cincinnati magazine and has been ranked by US News and World Report as being in the top 1% of doctors in his specialty.
