John Gordon Harold, MD, MACC, MACP, FESC, FRCPI (Hon), FRCP (Hon), FICS (Hon), FIPC (Hon), FCSI, FIASC, FCCP, FAHA
Dr. Harold is a cardiologist and professor at the Cedars-Sinai Health Sciences University. He is part of the Cedars-Sinai Professoriate and previously served as a professor at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. As an attending physician at Cedars-Sinai, he is a member of the voluntary clinical faculty of the Smidt Heart Institute.
Dr. Harold holds lifetime certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, along with an active certification in Geriatric Medicine. He is engaged in ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification program and was previously certified in Critical Care Medicine.
His leadership roles include serving as Chief of Staff at Cedars-Sinai and as the 62nd President of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). He led ACC’s Campaign for the Future, a $13 million initiative aimed at transforming cardiovascular education and ensuring professionals are equipped for the future. In addition to his presidency, he has held key positions such as Chair of the ACC Board of Governors and ACC Secretary.
Dr. Harold is the Editor-in-Chief of ACC’s Cardiology Magazine and was a driving force behind ACC’s first Digital Strategy and International Twinning Program. He played a pivotal role in fostering relationships between the British Cardiovascular Society and the ACC California Chapter, contributing to the establishment of ACC’s Great Britain and Ireland international chapter.
His global advocacy efforts include serving as the founding Chair of the World Heart Federation Partner’s Council and holding a seat on the World Heart Federation Board of Directors. He has represented ACC at multiple World Health Organization events and testified at the United Nations General Assembly hearing in New York City on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). He served as a member of the World Heart Federation faculty at the 2025 Global Advocacy Summit held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Harold has served as an international faculty member with the Argentine Society of Cardiology, Cardiological Society of India, British Cardiovascular Society, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, Chinese Society of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology, German Cardiac Society, Guatemalan Association of Cardiology, Interamerican Heart Foundation, Irish Cardiac Society, Israel Heart Society, Japanese College of Cardiology, Korean Society of Cardiology, Mexican Society of Cardiology, National Heart Association of Malaysia, Philippine Heart Association, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Saudi Heart Association, Turkish Society of Cardiology and the World Heart Federation.
Dr. Harold has also been deeply involved with the American Heart Association (AHA), serving two terms as President of its Los Angeles affiliate and receiving AHA’s Passion of the Heart Award for his commitment to philanthropy and community health.
Beyond his organizational leadership, Dr. Harold served on the ABIM Board of Directors, ABIM Foundation Board of Trustees, and the ABIM Executive Committee. Harold Contributed to evolution of ABIMF Choosing Wisely® Campaign (2012 – 2019).
He also represents cardiovascular medicine on behalf of the ACC at the American College of Physicians Council of Subspeciality Societies (CSS)
His medical training includes internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and a cardiology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
