Dr. Thais Coutinho is a Professor of Medicine, Senior Associate Consultant, and Chair of the Division of Preventive Cardiology in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She received her medical degree from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in 2004, and completed residency and fellowship training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Vascular Medicine, Advanced Echocardiography, and Research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, in 2013. During her training, she received numerous clinical and research awards.  Upon graduating, Dr. Coutinho joined the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Canada and continued to receive Awards for her research and advocacy. In 2017, she was appointed Chief of the Division of Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation and Chair of the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Centre, where she secured millions of dollars in research funding and develop multiple clinical, educational and knowledge translation programs focused on women's cardiovascular health.  In 2023, she returned to the Mayo Clinic where she Chairs the Division of Preventive Cardiology, and continues her academic work.
