She earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch and an M.Sc. in Human Rights from the London School of Economics. At UT Health San Antonio, Dr. Patel is Clinical Co-Director of the UTHSA AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) and Practice Transformation Co-Lead for the South Central AETC. In these roles, she partners with clinics and health systems to strengthen HIV prevention and treatment delivery, expand access to best practices (including rapid ART initiation and status-neutral approaches), and support implementation of evidence-based models of care. She maintains an active clinical practice providing holistic, longitudinal care for people living with HIV, with an emphasis on whole-person support.
Dr. Patel is an experienced regional and national conference speaker and faculty development leader, known for practical, systems-oriented approaches to improving HIV care delivery and training the health workforce. Her scholarly and educational efforts emphasize interprofessional learning, implementation-focused program development, and scalable strategies to reduce disparities and improve outcomes across the HIV care continuum.
