Dr. Vera Bittner, Professor of Medicine and Endowed Scholar in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, serves as Section Head of General Cardiology, Prevention and Imaging in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. 

Her primary research interest is in secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease with an emphasis on lipid-lowering therapy. She is a past president of the National Lipid Association and past chair of the Section of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at ACC.

She has served as Senior Guest Editor for Circulation since 2017 and as Editor-in-Chief for ACCSAP since 2020.  She has published over 400 peer-reviewed articles, scientific statements, editorials, reviews, and book chapters.
