Fatty Liver Case Rounds Real-World Treatment Plans That Work
Fatty liver disease is increasingly recognized as a hepatic manifestation of systemic metabolic dysfunction, yet it remains underdiagnosed in everyday practice, often missed when standard liver enzymes fall within “normal” ranges.
This case-based session is designed to bridge the gap between recognition and action.
Using real-world patient scenarios, learners will develop a practical framework for identifying fatty liver risk earlier, interpreting key laboratory and fibrosis markers, and implementing stepwise, evidence-informed treatment strategies. The session emphasizes a clinically relevant approach that integrates lifestyle interventions, pharmacotherapy, and targeted adjunctive therapies without abandoning the realities of primary care practice.
Through guided case discussions, participants will explore common clinical presentations, including patients with metabolic risk but normal enzymes, those with type 2 diabetes and progressive liver involvement, and individuals at higher risk for fibrosis. The session will also highlight when to escalate care and how to co-manage patients effectively.
By the end of this session, clinicians will be better equipped to move beyond passive monitoring and toward proactive, structured management of fatty liver disease within the broader context of cardiometabolic health.
Target Audience
Healthcare professionals in primary care and cardiometabolic practice, including pharmacists, NPs, PAs, physicians, and nurses.
Learning Objectives
Identify metabolic risk patterns that should trigger MAFLD/MASH evaluation (even with “normal” liver enzymes). Interpret key liver health markers and fibrosis risk tools to stratify severity and urgency. Apply a stepwise, evidence-informed treatment approach integrating lifestyle therapy, pharmacotherapy, and targeted nutraceuticals when appropriate. Develop a monitoring plan (labs + imaging + follow-up intervals) and know when to refer.
