Raquel Sanabria-de la Torre, MSc / PhD candidate

Raquel Sanabria De la Torre holds a degree in Biology from the University of Granada (UGR), with a specialization in Translational Research and Personalized Medicine. She is currently a predoctoral researcher in the Doctoral Program in Clinical Medicine and Public Health and teaches through her FPU contract (University Teaching Training Fellowship) in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology III, and Immunology at UGR, delivering courses in Medical Biochemistry and Neurochemistry across Health Sciences degrees such as Medicine, Nursing, and Biochemistry.
Throughout her career, she has secured three competitive research contracts, which have enabled her to develop expertise in the production of advanced therapy medicinal products, including cell therapy and tissue engineering, within GMP facilities at the Cell Production and Tissue Engineering Unit (UPCIT) of Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital (HUVN). She has also strengthened her background in basic and translational research, gaining experience with molecular biology and immunological techniques aimed at identifying potential biomarkers.
Her current research focuses on predictive and personalized medicine, particularly the search for immunological, genetic, and microbiological biomarkers associated with therapeutic response in inflammatory skin diseases. She also investigates the influence of exposome-related factors—such as diet and physical activity—on skin conditions, with a special interest in non-invasive skin assessment methods that may help predict clinical and therapeutic outcomes.
Raquel completed a research stay at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), in the Department of Dermatology (March–July 2025), where she expanded her expertise in skin barrier function, cytokine biomarkers, and lifestyle determinants of atopic dermatitis under internationally recognized mentors.
She is a member of the TEC-19 Clinical and Translational Dermatology research group at ibs.GRANADA, accredited by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, and collaborates as co-investigator on projects PI23/01875 and the SSAD project. She also works with private entities on clinical trials, serving as a blinded evaluator for patients initiating treatment with biological drugs or JAK inhibitors.
Raquel has authored 35 scientific publications in high-impact journals (H-index: 11; >500 citations) and serves as a reviewer for journals such as the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Actas Dermo-Sifiliográficas, and Nutrients. She has co-supervised final degree projects in the Medicine program, all of which obtained excellent evaluations.
She has presented numerous communications at national and international conferences and has received five research awards. Additionally, she actively participates in scientific outreach activities, promoting photoprotection, skin health, and skin cancer prevention.
