Julianne Wilner, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology

Dr. Julianne Wilner (she/her) is a clinical psychologist at McLean Hospital and an instructor at Harvard Medical School. She works in several programs across the Child and Adolescent Division at McLean Hospital, including the Pediatric Mood, Imaging and Neurodevelopment Lab, 3East Adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy Continuum. She received her undergraduate degree and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Boston University, completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and her post-doctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Her research broadly focuses on improving mental health treatment by developing and evaluating mechanism-driven interventions, particularly for adolescents and young adults at risk for suicide. Specifically, her main areas of research expertise include: (1) evaluating the efficacy of mechanism-driven, transdiagnostic treatments for emotional disorders (i.e., anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder), (2) identifying interpersonal mechanisms driving suicidal and non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors in adults and adolescents, and (3) using multimodal tools (e.g., online social messaging data) to understand brain-behavior mechanisms contributing to suicidal behavior in adolescents.
Dr. Wilner is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with teens, young adults, and adults with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, borderline personality disorder, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. She specializes in providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Dr. Wilner is committed to providing evidence-based care that is culturally responsive and tailored to individual needs. She enjoys training, supervising, and researching the Unified Protocol and related transdiagnostic interventions for adolescents and adults suffering from anxiety disorders, self-harm, and suicidal behaviors. In addition to her work at McLean Hospital, she consults with community mental health providers and organizations in evidence-based, transdiagnostic, cognitive-behavioral treatments through the Unified Protocol Institute.
