Dr. Caroline Hastings is a Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.  In addition to her practice caring for patients with blood diseases and cancers in children and adolescents, she also diagnoses and manages patients with lysosomal storage diseases inclusive of Niemann-Pick type C and Gangliosidoses (GM1 and GM2).  She is a principal investigator for multi-institutional clinical trials in lysosomal disorders and has published (and presented) results of clinical research as well as guidelines for diagnosis and management of patients with NPC.  Dr. Hastings serves on several boards including scientific advisory boards, and serves as a consultant to family foundations and (on an as needed basis) to pharmaceutical companies developing therapeutic trials in NPC and GM1/2.  She is focused on providing education to patients and families, and raising community awareness of rare diseases.
