Cheri Frey, MD, FAAD
Dr. Cheri Frey is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Howard University in Washington, DC, where she serves as Residency Program Director, Director of Cosmetic Dermatology, and Medical Director of the Beacon of Hope Clinical Trials Program.
Dr. Frey earned her medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed her internal medicine internship and dermatology residency at the University of Florida, where she served as chief resident and received the Outstanding Resident Teacher Award. She also earned a graduate certificate through Georgetown University’s Biomedical Graduate Education Clinical and Translational Research program.
A nationally and internationally recognized speaker, Dr. Frey has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and authored several textbook chapters. She is an expert in cosmeceuticals, and her research interests include alopecia, cutaneous lupus, longevity medicine, and dyspigmentation. As a principal investigator, she has led numerous clinical research initiatives and received several research grants and awards, including a Dermatology Foundation Research Award.
Dr. Frey is deeply committed to teaching, mentorship, and advancing diversity in dermatology and clinical research. She is a past Chair of the Dermatology Section of the National Medical Association (NMA), where she co-founded the Diversity in Clinical Research Clinical Investigator Training Program with Dr. Valerie Harvey, former President of the Skin of Color Society. She also leads the NMA Derm-Olay partnership, which offers an innovative research grant supporting advancements in dermatologic research.
Dr. Frey serves on the Board of Directors of the American Acne and Rosacea Society and holds leadership roles in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology
