Elaine Husni, MD MPH

M. Elaine Husni, MD, MPH, is Vice Chair, and Director, Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Center within the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases and Co Vice Chair for Research, Orthopedic and Rheumatologic Institute at the Cleveland Clinic (CC). She is the inaugural endowed chair holder of the Scholtz Chair of Functional Medicine Translational Research.
Dr. Husni joined the CC in 2005 following a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital. She completed her internship and residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital at Harvard Medical School, and Rheumatology fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Husni received her MD and MPH degrees at Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Husni is very active in both patient care and clinical/translational research focused on examining health outcomes in psoriatic diseases and large scale clinical trials in RA and OA. She also heads up a basic research laboratory in the Lerner Research Institute where she has a focus on understanding mechanisms by which systemic immune mediated diseases drive cardiovascular inflammation. Her research work has been funded by multiple foundations and the NIH.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the National Psoriasis Foundation, Medical and Scientific committee for the Arthritis Foundation, and steering committee member of GRAPPA (Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis. She is an active member of the American College of Rheumatology (past member of the publications committee, current Guidelines subcommittee), and Co-Chair RRF Strategic Task Force. She has had the opportunity to mentor both rheumatology and orthopedic research trainees and this has been one of her most rewarding experiences.
