Dr. Kirsten Verkamp is an Advanced Geriatrics Fellow at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System and a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. Her research focuses on life-course Veteran reintegration and well-being, with particular attention to aging Veterans and the psychosocial factors that influence quality of life. Dr. Verkamp’s fellowship work includes piloting an Age-Friendly psychoeducational group series for older Veterans and contributing to interdisciplinary research initiatives, including a Biobehavioral Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Profiles Clinician Dashboard project and the Targeted Auditory Plasticity clinical trial. Her research examines protective domains such as social connection, purpose, and mental health—factors increasingly recognized as relevant to Veteran suicide prevention.
