Alicia Cooper

Alicia D. Cooper is a U.S. Army Veteran, public-sector professional, civic leader, and founder of Buttress Sanctuary, an innovative transitional housing and healing community designed to help Veterans experiencing mild to moderate behavioral health challenges stabilize, heal, and prepare for their next phase of life.
Her professional work within the Veterans Health Administration has provided her with a unique perspective on the complexity of navigating Veteran healthcare and support systems, particularly when Veterans' needs extend beyond traditional clinical care. Her broader leadership work spans disability access, public policy, organizational systems, community partnerships, and advocacy.
Drawing upon both lived experience and professional service, Alicia created Buttress Sanctuary around a simple principle: Veterans should not have to reach crisis before a community surrounds them with support. Buttress is designed to bridge housing, healing, healthcare connections, accessibility, community, and purposeful transition—ultimately preparing Veterans for successful departure into stable, independent lives.
Alicia's work is grounded in the belief that service does not end when the uniform comes off—and neither should the community committed to those who served.
