Thomas Noonan, MD

Dr. Noonan joined the Steadman Hawkins Clinic Denver in January of 2002 and was instrumental in the process of the Clinic joining the University of Colorado in 2016. He specializes in the treatment of shoulder, elbow, and knee disorders. He is also skilled in the evaluation of general orthopedic problems such as fractures and sprains. He is the Head Team Physician for the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball team, Team Physician for the Denver Broncos, and a team physician for Valor Christian High School.
Dr. Noonan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton University where he majored in Civil Engineering and Operations Research. He was also honored by being selected for induction into Phi Beta Kappa. He played varsity football as well as intramural ice hockey while at Princeton. He then attended the Duke University School of Medicine where he was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. He was also presented with the Dean’s recognition award at graduation. He stayed at Duke University for his orthopedic surgery residency training and then performed a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Major League Baseball Team Physicians Association (past President), and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.
Dr. Noonan is an expert in baseball medicine and continues to perform research in this area. He is a founding member of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) Study group, a select group of international surgeons dedicated to improving the treatment and prevention of UCL injuries.
Dr. Noonan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and a Senior Clinical Instructor in the Department of Family Medicine He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Bioengineering in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at the University of Denver.
