Crystal M. Walker, PhD, DNP, FNP-C, is a nurse scientist, clinician, and health system leader specializing in HIV treatment, HIV prevention, sexual health, and health equity. She currently serves as Associate Director of the Sexual Health Program at CommUnityCare Health Centers in Austin, Texas, where she leads system-wide clinical strategy, program development, and quality initiatives across a multi-site federally qualified health center network. She also serves as Clinical Services Lead at both the David Powell Health Center—one of the largest HIV clinics in Central Texas—and the IdealHealth Sexual Health Program, an innovative, low-barrier model focused on inclusive and affirming sexual healthcare.
Dr. Walker has been instrumental in expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment, including the implementation of long-acting injectable PrEP with the federally qualified health center network., same-day PrEP initiation models, and integrated care approaches that address behavioral health, primary care, and social determinants of health. Her leadership includes development of standardized clinical protocols for PrEP, PEP, Expedited Partner Therapy, and DoxyPEP, expansion of point-of-care HIV and Hepatitis C testing, and advancement of Ryan White-funded quality programs and interdisciplinary care models.
Prior to her leadership role in Texas, Dr. Walker served as an HIV primary care nurse practitioner and academic faculty member at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where she also directed continuing professional development and led funded research initiatives focused on HIV disparities and care delivery. Her research portfolio includes studies on PrEP access, interdisciplinary education, and health disparities, with national dissemination through peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
