Ajay Vallakati, MD
I am a board-certified cardiologist with specialized training in cardiology, advanced heart failure, and cardio-oncology. My journey in medicine began at Osmania Medical College in India, followed by a Master of Public Health at Missouri State University. This public health foundation has shaped my commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care. I completed my Internal Medicine residency at Maimonides Medical Center in New York and pursued fellowships in Cardiovascular Diseases at Case Western Reserve University, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at The Ohio State University.
Since joining The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in 2017, I have served as a faculty member in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases, advancing to Associate Professor in 2024. I am the co-director for Comprehensive Amyloidosis Care Clinic at the OSU James Cancer Center, where I’ve helped build a multidisciplinary model of care for patients with cardiac amyloidosis. This work has been recognized both locally and nationally.
My research interests span heart failure and cardiac amyloidosis. I have authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and presented at numerous national and international conferences. I’ve led and contributed to several grant-funded initiatives, including serving as principal investigator on a $96,000 project aimed at improving medication adherence in heart failure patients through structured discharge planning and follow-up.
Teaching and mentorship are central to my academic mission. I’ve received multiple Medical Student Teaching Excellence Awards and have mentored numerous residents, fellows, and medical students. Many of my mentees have presented at national conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. I also serve as a clinical preceptor and regularly lecture on topics such as heart failure, cardiac amyloidosis, and cancer therapy-related cardiotoxicity.
I hold board certifications in Cardiovascular Diseases, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, along with certifications in Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. I am an active member of the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Heart Association.
