Robert Sefcik, MS, LAT, ATC
Robert Sefcik serves as Executive Director of the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program (JSMP), a Florida-based nonprofit dedicated to youth sports safety, a role he has held since 2006. A graduate of the University of Toledo and Jacksonville University, he brings more than 36 years of experience in sports medicine across clinical care, administration, and education, with extensive athletic training experience at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels.
Under his leadership, JSMP has become a leading advocate for youth sports safety in Florida. The program partners with the Duval County Public Schools, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Nemours Children’s Health, Brooks Rehabilitation, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Duval County Medical Society to advance its mission. JSMP collaborates with athletic trainers, physicians, and community organizations throughout Northeast Florida to promote best practices, education, and professional development in sports safety.
Mr. Sefcik serves the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) as a member and former Chair of the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee. He is also Chief Administrative Officer for the Florida Alliance for Sports Medicine (FASMed), a statewide model for advancing high school sports safety. In this role, he has worked with legislators to advance key safety initiatives, including Florida’s concussion law, the Zachary Martin Act addressing exertional heat stroke, and the Second Chance Act aimed at reducing sudden cardiac death in high school athletes.
A nationally recognized advocate, Mr. Sefcik has presented as a guest faculty speaker for more than 15 state high school athletic associations and in collaboration with the Korey Stringer Institute at the University of Connecticut. His honors include the Korey Stringer Institute Lifesaving Education Award, presented at NFL headquarters in New York. He is an active member of multiple professional organizations, including the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Athletic Trainers’ Association of Florida.
Mr. Sefcik has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of North Florida and Jacksonville University, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in sports safety and athletic healthcare. He is a licensed athletic trainer in both Florida and Ohio.
He resides in St. Augustine, Florida, with his wife, Jill. They have four children and two grandchildren.
