In Vitro Fertilization: A Practical Guide for Healthcare Professionals

Fertility care and IVF extends well beyond the reproductive endocrinologist and all members of the interprofessional healthcare team are involved in the management of IVF patients.
The objective of this accredited CE activity is not to equip the reader to assume the role of a reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist. Rather, the goal is to provide information that will help all providers on the patient’s healthcare team to identify the patient’s family building plans, appropriately counsel and refer them, and to provide healthcare professionals with resources to help patients make informed decisions about their fertility treatment.

Target Audience

Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, psychologists/counselors, genetic counselors, laboratory professionals, financial counselors, and patient navigators.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify a patient’s family building plans
  • Outline clinical indications and contraindications to IVF
  • Identify which patients may benefit from a referral for evaluation and treatment
  • List barriers to care and special considerations for patients considering IVF
  • Summarize how to access sources of evidence-based information for providers and patients
