Menopause
The menopausal transition is universal, but each woman’s experience is unique based on many medical, societal, and cultural factors. Diminishing levels of estrogen and progesterone during perimenopause eventually result in the cessation of menstruation – or menopause, which is associated with numerous common vasomotor and genitourinary symptoms. In addition, estrogen deprivation affects cardiovascular health, skin, bone health, cognitive and mental health, among many other medical consequences. While most women experience mild-to-moderate symptomatology, some women will have persistent symptoms well past menopause that can have substantial long-term health implications. This activity will provide you with the knowledge and strategies needed to discuss perimenopause and menopause with your patients and appropriately treat symptomatic patients as needed.
