Advancing Health Equity: The Role of Social Determinants
Social determinants of health (SDOH)—the conditions in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age—significantly influence health, well-being, and quality of life. This interactive course examines how factors such as economic stability, access to and quality of education and healthcare, neighborhood and built environment, and social and community context contribute to health disparities and patient outcomes. Through discussion, case-based examples, and practical application, participants will explore how social barriers can affect a patient’s ability to access care and follow treatment recommendations. Participants will develop strategies to recognize social needs, engage patients through patient-centered communication, and incorporate SDOH considerations into assessment and care planning to support more equitable health outcomes.
