Foundations to Laser and Light
This activity is for licensed healthcare professionals who want to begin their journey into the Medical Aesthetics specialty or those who wish to gain a stronger foundational knowledge into lasers.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for an audience of Physicians, Dentists, Nurses, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss how gender, ethnicity differences, and skin need to be considered when using lasers
- Assess patients across all Fitzpatrick skin types to tailor safe, effective treatment plans
- Explain the science of light-tissue interaction, including wavelength, pulse duration, and chromophores
- Review the history and current application of aesthetic medicine, with a focus on laser treatment
- Identify key components, observations, and questions that are part of a thorough medical history for a patient who will receive laser treatments
- Educate the patient on pre and post procedures and expectations when receiving laser treatment
- Identify appropriate medical documentation for laser procedures
- Identify the appropriate broadband light (BBL) filters and parameters for treating pigmentation, redness, and skin rejuvenation
- Integrate laser/light treatments with injectables and skincare for comprehensive patient care
- Identify the appropriate settings utilizing a 1927NM non-ablative laser safely and effectively
- Discuss optimal methods for safe laser treatments
- Explain and demonstrate safe laser technique of lasers
- Apply evidence-based pre- and post-treatment protocols to maximize patient safety and outcomes
- Recognize and manage risks, complications, and contraindications associated with light and laser therapies
