Implicit Bias in Healthcare 1-Hour Compliance Training
This activity provides an interprofessional educational experience focused on understanding and addressing implicit bias in healthcare. Through case examples and evidence-based strategies, participants will examine how bias—particularly related to race, gender, and socioeconomic status—can affect individuals with intersecting identities. Learners will gain tools to identify, interrupt, and mitigate bias in clinical practice. The activity fulfills implicit bias training requirements for licensed professionals in Illinois (Section 1130.500), California (AB 2319), and New Jersey (Bill A1079).
Target Audience
This activity is designed for an interprofessional audiences in all states, for all professions licensed or registered under the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation under Section 1130.500, for all individuals licensed under Division 2 of the Business and Professions Code who provide perinatal care in California and meets criteria for AB 2319, for healthcare professionals in New Jersey who provide prenatal or perinatal care, including physicians, physician assistants, nurses, certified nurse midwives, certified professional midwives, and certified midwives, as outlined in New Jersey Bill A1079.

- Differentiate between implicit and explicit biases and explain how they impact individuals with intersecting identities..
- Identify the causes, formation, effects, and harms of implicit bias, particularly as they relate to race, gender socioeconomic status, and other intersecting identities.
- Identify and apply strategies to recognize, interrupt, and mitigate implicit bias in interactions with individuals from diverse and intersecting identity groups.
