Newborn Screening in US: Working with What We’ve Got
This program aims to help learners recognize and adopt ways to improve identification of NMD using newborn screening and follow-up testing, and communication of positive cases within their care setting to prevent loss to follow-up and streamline referral.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for an audience of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physicians, physician associates and social workers.
Learning Objectives
- Identify NMDs included on NBS list, nationally and locally, and the rationale and implications of those being considered for inclusion
- Identify ways to improve detection and confirmation of NMD using NBS and follow-up testing
- Identify ways to overcome challenges in communicating positive NBS cases to ensure timely referral to specialists, without loss in continuity of care
