Optimizing Hormonal Health: Clinical Strategies in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

This live activity provides an evidence-based review of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) in male and female patients, including clinical indications, contraindications, treatment strategies, and monitoring protocols. Participants will examine the physiologic principles and historical evolution of HRT and BHRT, evaluate current evidence regarding safety, cancer risk, and outcomes, and discuss management of common complications such as aromatization, polycythemia, and mood or libido changes. The course also integrates adjunctive therapies and applies these concepts through real-world case studies across diverse age groups and comorbid conditions to support safe, effective clinical decision-making.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for an audience of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and any other healthcare professional interested in BHRT.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify clinical indications, contraindications, and monitoring protocols for male and female hormone replacement therapy.
  • Describe the physiologic principles and historical evolution of HRT and BHRT, including the rationale for bioidentical hormone use.
  • Analyze current evidence regarding safety, cancer risk, and clinical outcomes associated with HRT and BHRT.
  • Discuss common complications of HRT/BHRT—including aromatization, polycythemia, and mood or libido changes—and evidence-based management strategies.
  • Integrate adjunctive therapies such as thyroid optimization, cortisol management, vitamin D3, and nutraceuticals into comprehensive hormone care.
  • Evaluate real-world clinical scenarios using case-based discussions across age ranges and comorbid conditions.
