Target Audience

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the basic pathophysiology of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and distinguish it from other common gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Identify common symptom patterns and clinical scenarios in which SIBO should be considered in outpatient practice.
  • Evaluate appropriate use of breath testing for SIBO, including indications, limitations, and factors that may affect test interpretation.
  • Apply practical communication strategies to respond to patient-driven SIBO inquiries and testing requests in a time-limited clinical setting.
