Brooks Kuhn, MD, MAS

Brooks Kuhn, MD, MAS, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. He currently serves as President of the California Thoracic Society.
Dr. Kuhn is a nationally recognized expert in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. At UC Davis, he serves as Co-Director of the Comprehensive COPD Clinic, Medical Director of the Reversible Obstructive Airway Disease (ROAD) program, and Medical Director of the Department of Respiratory Care. He helped found and directs UC Davis's endobronchial valve COPD program.
His research focuses on translational applications in COPD, including early identification of exacerbations using novel technologies and preventative measures to reduce hospital readmissions. Dr. Kuhn earned his MAS through the NIH-sponsored Mentored Clinical Research Training Program at the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center, where he developed expertise in health informatics, natural language processing, and machine learning.
Dr. Kuhn has published over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 100+ abstracts in leading journals including the Journal of American Medical Informatics Association, CHEST, and Journal of COPD Foundation. He is an Alpha-1 Foundation designated expert in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and has been named a Sacramento "Top Doc" for four consecutive years. He received his MD from Jefferson Medical College and completed his Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at UC Davis.
