2026 California Thoracic Society Annual Educational Conference & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Symposium
This conference brings together regional and national experts to discuss the latest advances in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.
Thursday is dedicated to a multidisciplinary symposium on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which includes discussion of epidemiology, heterogeneity, novel medications, interventional techniques, and advanced therapies.
Friday will cover the topics of advances in the field of interventional pulmonary, remote monitoring tools to assist in the care of patients with lung disease and sleep disorders, and approaches to symptom management in the patient with lung disease.
Saturday will cover advances in the management of the septic patient, an update on how and when to use extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and the inpatient and pulmonary complications of cancer care.
Target Audience

- Recognize the proper use of ancillary services in treating the patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease including oxygen, non-invasive ventilation, endobronchial valves, pulmonary rehabilitation, and lung transplantation
- Describe the heterogeneity in presentation of patients with chronic obstructive lung disease and how this impacts ventilation and clinical management
- Discuss the major updates that have occurred in the field of interventional pulmonary, including advanced bronchoscopy techniques and pleural disease management
- Recognize the value in remote monitoring for the patient with lung disease and sleep disorders, and how remote monitoring can improve patient care
- Describe how pulmonary practitioners can manage symptoms of lung disease and how palliative care services should be employed
- Recognize how the approach to treating sepsis has changed in recent years and how phenotyping patients with sepsis can improve outcomes
- Discuss the way that extracorporeal membrane oxygenation can assist recovery for patients with respiratory failure and when to refer patients for this therapy
- Describe how treatment of malignancy can lead to multiple respiratory illnesses as well as critical illness and understand how to manage the patient with an oncologic emergency
