Catherine Benziger, MD MPH

Catherine P. Benziger, MD, MPH, FAHA, FACC, is a practicing non-invasive cardiologist and Medical Director of Heart and Vascular Research at Essentia Health, as well as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus. She trained at the University of Minnesota Medical School, then completed internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Washington, and completed her MPH in Global Health at the University of Washington, with a career focused on cardiometabolic disease, clinical trials, and population health. Dr. Benziger is a site principal investigator and top enrolling site leader for multiple pragmatic and industry-sponsored trials, including consortium PI for Essentia Health in the Patient-Centered Research Outcome Network (PCORNet) Science, Technology and Research (STAR) Phase 4 Clinical Research Network, site PI for PREVENTABLE, PRECIDENTD, V-INCLUSION, V-INTERVENTION, PREEMPT and serves in national leadership roles with the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and Cardiometabolic Health Alliance. Her clinical and research work centers on improving cardio-kidney-metabolic health, advancing lipid and hypertension care, and reducing cardiovascular disparities in rural populations.
