Evelio Escamilla, BA

Evelio Salinas Escamilla, Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Latine/Hispanic Health Equity and Capacity Building Assistance Specialist with Hands United Manos Unidas at the Latino Commission on AIDS. A South Texas native, he earned a B.A. in Mexican American Studies with an emphasis in Political Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Mr. Escamilla has extensive experience in pre- and post-grant administration, program development, and implementation across NIH/NIDA, SAMHSA, and CDC research projects and programs, the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, and Avenue 360 Health & Wellness HRSA-funded health center. He also coordinated the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse-Summer Research Training Institute for pre- and post-doctoral students across the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Europe at the University of Houston, Graduate College of Social Work. He was appointed by the Harris County Judge to serve on the HRSA-funded Houston/Harris County Ryan White Planning Council. He has recently been appointed to the Texas HIV Syndicate planning group, the Houston Health Department’s HIV Community Prevention Group, and the Area Agency on Aging-Houston Aging and Disability Resource Center’s Advisory Committee. He continues to work on Behavioral Health Assessment among Texas Hispanics/Latinxs and HIV; HIV and Aging in Texan Hispanics and Nationally, Preventative Health in Texas and Florida, and other social-epidemiological projects on Cancer, Diabetes, HIV Diagnosis, HIV Prevalence, and behavioral health, and developing practical community-driven solutions for issues affecting Hispanics.
