John Sapero

John Sapero is the Director of Partnerships & Development for CAN Community Health. He has been a leader in local and national HIV planning, education, service delivery and advocacy for more than 36 years. John works to implement locally tailored, highly impactful HIV/STI/Hepatitis prevention and care programming, including expansion of comprehensive LGBTQIA+ health care, increased use in Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), expanding service availability in rural and tribal communities, and most recently, promoting Undetectable=Untransmittable (HIV treatment as powerful HIV prevention).
Before joining CAN Community Health, John was the Office Chief of the HIV Prevention Program for the Arizona Department of Health Services. In this role, John co-authored Victory Over HIV, Arizona’s audacious plan to end the local HIV epidemic. John served for four years as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), where he co-chaired the Ending HIV Epidemic subcommittee. He is also the former Vice Chair of the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors.
