Sleep and Breathing in Pediatric Neuromuscular Disorders (NMD)
This webinar is designed to improve the recognition, evaluation, and management of sleep and breathing disorders in children with neuromuscular disorders (NMDs). As understanding of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), nocturnal hypoventilation, and respiratory muscle weakness evolves—along with diagnostic tools and noninvasive ventilation strategies—clinicians benefit from practical, case-based guidance to support early identification and optimal intervention. This program will help participants translate emerging evidence into real-world clinical decision-making, addressing disease-specific variability, long-term management, and family-centered care. Faculty will examine the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of SDB, nocturnal hypoventilation, and progressive respiratory insufficiency, highlighting their implications for diagnostic evaluation and management.
Target Audience
This webinar is designed for pediatric neurologists, pulmonologists, sleep medicine specialists, neurology trainees, respiratory therapists, advanced practice providers, and other HCP's involved in the care of children with NMDs.
Commercial Support
This activity is supported from an independent medical education grant from Shionogi Inc.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize sleep and breathing complications across pediatric NMDs, including disease-specific risk factors.
- Apply appropriate screening and diagnostic strategies to identify and monitor sleep-disordered breathing and nocturnal hypoventilation.
- Integrate evidence-based approaches to noninvasive ventilation and longitudinal respiratory management tailored to individual patient and family needs.
