Introduction to Dermal Fillers

Overview
Introduction to Dermal Fillers is designed for medical professionals holding an active and unrestricted license in their field of practice. Upon completion of this course, participants are able to identify anatomical landmarks for safe injection of dermal fillers, become familiar with the array of hyaluronic acid (HA) and non-HA fillers available in the United States, learn techniques to optimize safety for mid-face and lip injections with dermal fillers, manage adverse events and practice basic techniques with a variety of HA fillers.

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, dentists and other healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the pharmacology and mechanism of action of soft tissue hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers 
  • Review the mechanism of action of soft issue dermal fillers
  • Identify patient characteristics that support or contraindicate use of HA dermal fillers 
  • Identify facial areas for which treatment with dermal fillers is appropriate 
  • List the proper dosing regimens for various dermal fillers 
  • Describe injection techniques for the various dermal fillers per injection site 
  • Explain the differences in dosing regimens for various dermal fillers 
  • Discuss the duration of action and potential side effects for each dermal filler per injection site
