38th Annual MI ACC Conference

Traverse City, MI US
September 26, 2026 to September 27, 2026

This activity will help clinicians use the latest evidence in patient care, improve risk assessment, combine lifestyle and medication strategies, and follow guidelines more confidently. It will support team-based care, increase use of preventive tools, and lead to better outcomes for high-risk patients.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for an audience of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician associates.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

Session 1-  Unusual/Infiltrative Cardiomyopathies – Amyloid, HCM

  • Outline the challenges of ICD decision making in cardiac sarcoidosis.
  • Provide overview of genetic cardiomyopathies.
  • Define current options and issues in medical treatment of infiltrative diseases and selection of appropriate therapies.
  • Review approaches to genetic counseling in patients with cardiomyopathies and their family members.

Session 2 -  Women's Health

  • Apply age and time-since-menopause ("timing hypothesis") to cardiovascular risk when considering menopausal hormone therapy.
  • Recognize and initiate GDMT for peripartum cardiomyopathy, including which HF medications are safe versus contraindicated across pregnancy and lactation.
  • Select and sequence the appropriate multimodality imaging tests to establish the underlying mechanism of MINOCA.
  • Identify the sex-specific procedural complications women face and the modifiable strategies that reduce them.

Session 3 -  Acute Pulmonary Embolism: Redefining Risk and Improving Patient Care

  • Employ updated guideline-recommended risk stratification framework for classifying patients with acute pulmonary embolism across the full continuum of risk.
  • Explain the role of Pulmonary Embolism Response Teams (PERT) and identify clinical situations in which multidisciplinary consultation may be appropriate.
  • Compare the available treatment approaches for acute pulmonary embolism as well as their evidence, including anticoagulation, systemic thrombolysis, catheter-directed therapies, and mechanical thrombectomy.

Session 4 -  Prevention

  • Identify and apply key changes from recent cardiovascular dyslipidemia and hypertension guidelines, including updated cardiovascular risk assessment, blood pressure and lipid treatment targets, use of Lp(a)/ApoB, and practical lipid-lowering strategies.
  • Distinguish key changes in atrial fibrillation (AF) contemporary guidelines from prior recommendations and describe their implications for risk-factor modification, rhythm control, stroke prevention, and device-detected AF.
  • Describe the evolving role of CAC and CCTA in cardiovascular disease prevention and management and apply imaging findings to inform risk assessment management decisions.

Session 5 -  It’s all about what you don’t see- Case-based discussion of ANOCA

  • Understand how to evaluate for non obstructive causes of chest pain syndrome.
  • Develop an understanding of the management options for non obstructive causes of chest pain syndrome.

Session 6 -  Heart Failure Management

  • Identify patients at elevated baseline risk for cancer therapy-related cardiovascular toxicity.
  • Increase understanding of MRI myocardial tissue characterization and the use of coronary CT to evaluate ischemic etiology in new-onset HFrEF.
  • Describe the four pillars of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for HFrEF and strategies for rapid initiation and titration.
  • Recognize the need for early referral for advanced heart failure therapies and understand patient-selection principles for durable LVAD and heart transplantation.

Session 7 -  Stump the Expert

  • Identify appropriate candidates for left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) by considering thromboembolic risk, anticoagulation tolerance, and need for concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation.
  • Discuss the role of pre- and post-LAAO imaging and recognize clinically important findings, including device-related thrombus and peri-device leak.
  • Implement safe rhythm control after LAAO, including cardioversion and AF ablation, with appropriate imaging in patients unable to tolerate anticoagulation.
