Activity Overview
The purpose of this meeting is to provide a forum for ophthalmologist to learn the most up to date information in ophthalmic medicine covering the subspecialties within general ophthalmology to strengthen the knowledge and skills of ophthalmologic professionals and to improve patient outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for an audience of nurses, physicians, physician assistants, and any other ophthalmologic health professional.

Learning Objectives

After completing of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

Cornea/Anterior Segment/Refractive Surgery

  • Recognize common corneal and ocular surface conditions that prompt referral to cornea specialists and understand how these conditions may initially present in comprehensive practice; Implement effective referral timing to enhance patient outcomes
  • Recognize how cross-disciplinary discoveries have driven major advances in ophthalmology

Glaucoma

  • Recognize scenarios where a trabeculectomy procedure may be an appropriate consideration for surgical intervention.

Retina-Vitreous

  • Describe the development and future of international collaborations in retina
  • Explain the surgical management of viral retinitis when retinal detachment develops

Oculoplastics

  • Review how to assess for the presence of lacrimal gland prolapse in pre-operative blepharoplasty patients 
  • Describe patient physical characteristics that require an external incision for lower blepharoplasty 

Risk Management/Ethics 

  • Recognize risk factors which lead to medical malpractice claims.
  • Identify common efficiency-driven practices in clinical care that may unintentionally compromise patient understanding, shared decision-making, or trust.

Breakout Sessions: 

  • Discuss recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases 
  • Identify major advances in key areas of cutting-edge research and technology in ophthalmology
  • Review current and emerging therapies for the management and treatment of various ocular conditions
